FiRst sPeLLinG bEe

Ty was able to participate in his first spelling bee. He studied a lot and was so excited to see how he would do. On Monday, January 31st he competed in the class portion and was one of the top 3.Then he moved onto the 1st grade portion which took place on Wednesday, February 2nd and was in the top 3 for the first grade!! He was sooooo excited! He had some good friends who were just as excited as he was! They cheered him on!

On Friday, February 4th was the school spelling bee. Ty was super nervous but confident - he didn't realize he would have to spell in front of so many people but his fear didn't show! Ty made it through several rounds before he got "toxicosis" and he couldn't spell it correctly. He was disappointed but he did a great job against so many older kids! The funny thing was we went to get ice cream after and we asked him to try to spell it and he spelled it correctly. He said he was nervous - funny kid!

He then competed in the K-3 portion of the spelling bee. It was down to him and 1 other boy who was a 3rd grader. Ty got the word "quench" and as soon as we heard the announcer pronounce the word "quinch" instead we knew Ty would spell it exactly how he heard and we were right. He had never missed spelling the word correctly at home.

He ended up getting 3rd place in the K-3 portion and 1st place out of the 1st grade. He did a great job for his first time considering he had the flu that entire week and didn't have a desire to practice! It worked out to be a perfect weekend since Grandma Varney was in town and was able to see him in the spelling bee and playing in his Jr. Jazz game.

He was all smiles to win a trophy - it is proudly displayed on his dresser!
