Veterans Day 2012

The 3rd grade classes at Ty's school put on a Veteran's Day celebration.  All of the students were asked to invite any veterans to come and be honored.  It was a beautiful tribute of music and word to all those amazing men and women who selflessly serve(d).  We had invited my grandpa varney and Ty wanted my grandma swenson to come represent my grandpa who passed away a year ago.  My grandpa couldn't make it but luckily my grandma was able to come.  Ty was very grateful she did and throughly enjoyed being able to present a rose to her as a little thank you for the service my grandpa gave for over 3 years in World War II.  My grandma has a special place in Ty's heart.  He is very sensitive and loving to her.

During the program they had a part where they played the different songs representing each branch of the military and each veteran present was to stand during the song of the branch they served in.  Both Chad and I got emotional as all these men stood to be recognized and presented with a flower.  I am so grateful for all the amazing people who serve to protect our freedom!

We were proud of Ty since during the program he was one of 9 students selected to participate in the color guard.  He carried the flag in during the beginning.  For over a week he worried about being selected to participate.  He so wanted to be one of the lucky ones to do it.  The day he found out he got in the car with a big smile and said "Mom I was picked!"  He really felt proud to be part of the program and especially to know he had great grandpa's who served in the war.
